March
March 21 – Gov. Justice signed a law allowing employees to have firearms in locked vehicles on employer property
On March 21, 2018, Governor Justice signed House Bill 4187. This law prohibits employers from banning firearms from its property if the firearms are lawfully owned and stored in a locked vehicle. Other requirements and restriction apply.
The new law becomes effective on June 8, 2018.
February
February 23 – Gov. Justice signed a law allowing employers to deduct the cost of company property from employees wages
On March 21, 2018, Governor Justice signed House Bill 2546. This law allows employers to deduct from employees final wages the value of any company property given to the employees while the were employed but was not returned. To make the deductions, employers must obtain written consent from employees to make the deduction at the time the company property is given to them. Other requirements and restrictions apply.
The new law becomes effective on May 15, 2018.
