November 3 – Tacoma voters approve a minimum wage increase

On November 3, 2015, voters in Tacoma approved an initiative to increase the cities minimum wage to $12.00 by 2018. The voters could have approved an increase to $15.00, but ultimately decided on the more modest increase. The minimum wage will increase as follows:

  • February 1, 2016 – $10.35
  • January 1, 2017 – $11.15
  • January 1, 2018 – $12.00

September 30 – Washington Department of Labor & Industries announces there will be no minimum wage increase in 2016

September 30, 2015, the Washington Department of Labor & Industries announced that the state minimum wage rate with not increase in 2016. It will continue to be $9.47. The Department of Labor & Industries is required to annually adjust the minimum wage if there is an increase in the consumer price index in the prior year. It determined that there was no increase in the consumer price index during the relevant period.
