March 27 – Gov. Herbert signed a law governing noncompete provisions in broadcasting company employment agreements
On March 27, 2018, Governor Herbert signed House Bill 241. This law enacts new requirements and restrictions on noncompete provisions in employemnt agreements between broadcasting companies and their employees.
The new law becomes effective on May 8, 2018.
March 20 – Gov. Herbert signed a law changing investigation and enforcement provisions of the state’s Antidiscrimination Act and the Administrative Procedures Act
On March 20, 2018, Governor Herbert signed House Bill 30. This law makes changes to the investigation and enforcement provisions of state’s Antidiscrimination Act and the Administrative Procedures Act, including granting subpoena power to the Utah Labor Commission Antidiscrimination and Labor Division.
The new law becomes effective on May 8, 2018.
March 19 – Gov. Herbert signed a law addressing payments upon separation from employment to commission-based sales agents
On March 19, 2018, Governor Herbert signed Senate Bill 212. This law clarifies the standard rules regarding payment of wages upon separation from employment for commission-based sales agents, except for the commission-based portion of the sales agents’ earnings that cannot be determined within the prescribed time limits.
The new law becomes effective on May 8, 2018.
March 19 – Gov. Herbert signed a law that prohibits employers from interfering with employees ability to file workers’ compensation claims
On March 19, 2018, Governor Herbert signed House Bill 288. This law prohibits employers from interfering with employees’ abilities to file workers’ compensation claims. It also prohibits employers from retaliating against employees who file such claims.
The new law becomes effective on May 8, 2018.
March 16 – Gov. Herbert signed a law that establishes the independent contractor standards for building service contractors use of service marketplace platforms
On March 16, 2018, Governor Herbert signed Senate Bill 75. This law establishes the independent contractor standards for building service contractors use of service marketplace platforms.
