May 26 – Governor Bel Edwards signed a law allowing private employers to give hiring preferences to veterans and certain family members

On May 26, 2016, Governor Bel Edwards signed a law allowing private employers to give hiring preferences to the following:

  • an honorably discharged veteran
  • the spouse of a veteran with a service-connected disability
  • the unremarried widow or widower of a veteran who died of a service-connected disability
  • the unremarried widow of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who died in the line of duty under combat-related conditions

The law goes into effect on August 1, 2016.
