May 8 – Gov. Deal signed a law making changes to background check requirements for early care and education employers
On May 8, 2018, Governor Deal signed House Bill 494. The law makes changes to the background check requirements for early care and education employers. This includes replacing the previous fingerprint records check requirement with a comprehensive records check for prospective employees.
The new law becomes effective on July 1, 2018.
May 7 – Gov. Deal signed a law governing criminal background checks for long-term care facilities
On May 7, 2018, Governor Deal signed Senate Bill 406. The law establishes criminal background check standards for owners, applicants for employment, and employees providing care or owning personal care homes, assisted living communities, private home care providers, home health agencies, hospice care, nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, or adult day cares.
The new law becomes effective on October 1, 2019.
