July 2016

July 1 – The minimum wage increases.

On July 1, 2016, the minimum wage for employees working in the District of Columbia increases to $11.50.

June 2016

June 27 – Mayor Bowser signed a law providing for annual minimum wage increases.

On June 27, 2016, Mayor Bowser signed the Fair Shot Minimum Wage Amendment of 2016 providing for annual minimum wage increases. The increases will be as follows:

  • July 1, 2017 – $12.50
  • July 1, 2018 – $13.25
  • July 1, 2019 – $14.00
  • July 1, 2020 – $15.00

The tip minimum wage will increase as follows:

  • July 1, 2017 – $3.33
  • July 1, 2018 – $3.89
  • July 1, 2019 – $4.45
  • July 1, 2020 – $5.00

Beginning July 1, 2021, the District of Columbia will increase its minimum wage and tip minimum wage annually in proportion to the annual average increase in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in the Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area for the preceding 12 months.
