June 7 – Governor Malloy signed a law expanding the reasons for which employees can take leave under the state’s family and medical leave act

On June 7, 2016, Governor Malloy signed a law expanding the reasons for which employees can take leave under the state’s family and medical leave act. Employees can now take family and medical leave due to a qualifying exigency arising from the impending call or order to active duty in the armed forces of a spouse, son, daughter, or parent.

The law became effective immediately.

June 7 – Governor Malloy signed a law permitting employers to pay employees by payroll cards

On June 7, 2016, Governor Malloy signed a law permitting employers to pay employees by payroll cards, in addition to the other methods that are already permitted.

The law goes into effect October 1, 2016.
