March 26 – Gov. Snyder signed a law prohibiting local governmental bodies from adopting certain private employer hiring rules
On March 26, 2018, Governor Snyder signed Senate Bill 0353. This law prohibits local governmental bodies from passing or enforcing ordinances or other rules that regulate information a private employer may request, require or exclude on an application for employment or during the interview process. The law does not prohibit local governments from adopting ordinances that require criminal background checks for licensing or permitting purposes.
The new law becomes effective on June 24, 2018.
