California Senate Bill 93 (2021)
On April 16, 2021, a law passed requiring an employer to offer its laid-off employees specified information about job positions that become available for which the employees are qualified, and to offer positions to those employees based on a preference system. The law also required an employer to keep certain records and an employer that declines to recall such employee for certain reasons to provide the employee with certain written notice. The law also prohibited an employer from taking adverse action against a person for seeking to enforce their rights.
The law establishing the layoff rights and protections expire on December 31, 2024.
