State minimum wage and overtime laws are extremely varied.  While several states rely solely
on the federal standard to define their laws, others have created their own complex rules and
regulations.  Below is a table that gives the basic requirements of each state's minimum wage
and overtime laws which apply to the majority of employers and to the majority of employees.  
The information shown below may not apply to your situation because many states have
adopted exceptions to their principal minimum wage and overtime laws based on various
factors such as the age of the employee, the size of the employer, the type of industry, whether
an employee receives tips, the type of work performed by the employee, etc.  Before setting
your employees wage rate, make sure you are in conformance with both state and federal
minimum wage and overtime laws.  Click on the name of the state for more information about
